The Signature Program of the current administration is “The Ivy Reading AKAdemy.” The reading initiative focuses on early learning and mastery of basic reading skills by the end of third grade. Chapters across the country have implemented a kindergarten through third grade after school reading initiative. Activities are funded in part by a multi- million dollar grant from the United States Department of Education to fund a 3-year nationwide after school demonstration project in low-performing, economically deprived, inner city schools in 16 sites in the continental United States.

Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter officially opened the Ivy Reading AKAdemy at Deshler Elementary School in February of 2003 under the leadership of its chairman, Soror Venita Payne.  The chapter began working with second grade students who were in need of mentoring.  These students grew academically and socially, receiving honor roll, perfect attendance and good citizen awards. On Thursday, May 13, 2004 Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter held an end of term graduation for the students of the Ivy AKAdemy. These students received numerous awards for: perfect attendance, most impoved, leadership skills, as well as many others. To date, all students served by the Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter Ivy Reading AKAdemy have reached grade level or higher in reading. Congratulations to ASO Ivy Reading AKAdemy committee members and to all of Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter members who have helped to make this signature program a success.
