The Scholars' Tea is the signature service event of Alpha Sigma Omega chapter. Established in 1983 by the Chapter President Emma Lilly Henderson, this event honors middle school honor roll students in Columbus City Schools at a community assembly. Students and their families are treated to a program including a motivational speaker, presentation of local talent, and individual presentation of medals and awards.

On Saturday, May 1, 2004, Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated held its 22nd annual middle school Scholars' Tea. One thousand and sixty-seven students from the twenty-nine Columbus Public middle schools were invited to be honored.
Under the leadership of Agnes Jennings, chairman, and Catherine Cockrell, co-chairman, over one thousand and one hundred scholars, parents, family members, schools administrators, and school counselors filled East High School. Keeping with the theme, "Embracing the Challenge...Setting the Standard for Excellence in the 21st Century", Soror Elenora Andrews, reporter for WCMH-NBC4 spoke of overcoming challenges to be successful. Congratulations to the Scholars' Tea committee and to all who volunteered to help ASO have another successful middle school Scholars' Tea.
